The submission on projective representations of lie algebra of type G_2 in small characteristic received the notice for acceptance but without the indication of the exact publication date.  Interestingly a featured story on the current issue of Notices focused on the century-long history of the exceptional simple group of this type. Then this educates us that the story always goes on...

Such is the precocious talent demonstrated by the young team that they finished first with unparalleled 217 points out of a possible 252 with two participants, one of them is from SHS, receiving the perfect score of 252 points and winning time lasting applause for their massive potential and dominant performance at the closing ceremony which saw the attendance of Spanish Crown Prince Felipe de Borbon y Grecia.

It might be desirable to pick up a profession with good coherency with the preoccupation. But could this apply for an erudite road which foresees a reduction of an endeavor to a bread earning obligation which might quickly cancel the passion? Possible but might not be likely. Instead this highly demanding enterprise is not maintaining the commensurate excellence but tends to call anybody who shows willingness (might together with a low ambition) to the arms. Therefore much feeling about a mix of the fascinating subject and the frustrating companions. (for those experienced)

Still remembering vividly one of my former classmates' description of his amazing visit to the mysterious and legendary Avenue Apartment in 2003, I am reminded of enough childhood experience in this area of elegance by this year of Hudec. On the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the Hungary architect's birth, a deserved exhibit was launched yesterday to commemorate his life and work. Together with the related activities, a site was constructed assembling the information of the significant figure in 20th century Shanghai.

As an extra duty I hadn't been assigned yet until the beginning of the semester, it really pushed me a bit. The difficulties lie in the following aspects. Mostly the exposition of the book follows a strangely casual style with most topics organized like an essay lacking stated lemma, theorem and corollary. Therefore the texts couldn't follow a rigorous fashion. That is, when you prove something you are not able to refer to some stated results because those results are causally written. For the reader, this is misleading enough not to say the lack of clear motivation presented by such a casual style. Secondly as many of the mathematical facts need to be established, whether the book sticks to its 'concrete' principle is questionable. Some of the materials are of quite abstract nature like the chapter of sum and integer functions.
In the later stage I realized the importance of combinatorial tools and switched to IMO materials.  I used the materials on Winning Solutions which is much better organized but also more demanding (for my audience). Judging from their homework, they haven't developed the maturity to fully appreciate the intricate skills in counting fundamentals.
(Main contents: recurrence relations and mathematical induction; sum; integer function; number theory fundamental; combination. One assignment and one exam paper)

In the middle of this month the well known author posted the new preprint in the arxiv providing the knowledge of first extension group between simple modules. Such information is of course interesting because it at least draws the Gabriel quiver. And it's good to see the area keeps advancing and attracts participants. Anyway the situation has a good aspect because at least there are many things unknown even though the bad aspect is that this is not a hot topic or a field with many cross discipline applications. After all why couldn't the pure curiosity already justify any efforts?
